SPOKANE, Wash. — The No. 9 Gonzaga Bulldogs clinched a share of the West Coast Conference regular-season championship, overwhelming the Portland Pilots 89-48 at the McCarthey Athletic Center.
The Bulldogs dominated throughout, rebounding from an earlier season loss to Portland. The victory also locked up the top seed for the Zags in the upcoming WCC tournament.
Senior forward Graham Ike led the way with 19 points, eight rebounds and a school-record seven steals. Gonzaga’s defense set the tone early, forcing 22 turnovers and limiting the Pilots to just 34.7 percent shooting.
The Bulldogs opened a double-digit lead in the first half and never looked back, extending their advantage after the break to secure the win.
The league title marks a key milestone for Gonzaga as it prepares to depart the West Coast Conference for the reconfigured Pac-12 Conference next season.
The Zags will look ahead to their final game in the regular season against Saint Mary’s, a win would secure an outright WCC title on Saturday February 28. The WCC tournament in Las Vegas begins on March 5.
