Spokane, WASH. — Prosecutors filed new charges against Carl Lindsey, who went before a judge again on Monday.
Lindsey is accused of firing a gun near North Central High School at Maxwell and Howard on Wednesday the 18th around 4 p.m. Court documents state that he stole his girlfriend’s handgun out of her purse and used her truck that day. Detectives say soon after firing shots, Lindsey stopped at a gas station at 1906 N. Ash Street and got out of the truck. Witnesses say they saw Lindsey waving a gun at cars passing by.
Police were able to locate Lindsey’s truck and stopped him near Heritage Funeral Home on Government Way. When officers gave commands, they say Lindsey sped off at up to 80 miles per hour leading to a short police pursuit.
“The officers had backed off for the safety of the public because the driver was driving recklessly,” said Spokane Police’s Tricia Leming. “Air One was in the air at the time and was able to keep visuals on the suspects’ vehicle.”
Lindsey drove into a police cruiser at Government and Whistalks Way, injuring the officer’s arm and wrist, before crashing in a residential neighborhood just east of Audubon Park.
The court notes that Mr. Lindsey has 18 adult criminal convictions. That he has 12 failures to appear or failure to comply, said Commissioner Tony Rugel.
One investigator wrote in the police report they recovered five shell casings in the truck.
Lindsey was being held on a $20,000 bond after his first court appearance on Thursday. Today the bond was increased to $50,000.
