SPOKANE, Wash. — A Spokane woman will spend nearly three years in prison after pleading guilty to setting her ex-wife’s house on fire, killing the woman’s dog in the process.
Meadow W. Raine-Jones, 38, received her sentence this week in Spokane County Superior Court, according to court records. She pleaded guilty to first-degree arson with domestic violence enhancement and multiple stalking charges. Judge Rachelle Anderson sentenced her to 34 months for arson, while Judge Marla Polin added sentences for stalking charges that will run concurrently.
The charges stem from harassment that began after Raine-Jones and her ex-wife separated in 2024, court records show. When her ex-wife began a new relationship, Raine-Jones stalked both women through repeated drive-bys and continuous contact via text and social media.
In November 2024, Raine-Jones broke into her ex-wife’s home and set the bedroom on fire while the victim’s dog was crated inside, according to court documents. A neighbor called 911, but firefighters could not revive the animal, which died from smoke inhalation.
During sentencing, the victim spoke about losing her home, safety and trusted companion. Judge Anderson noted the severity of cases involving animal abuse before sentencing Raine-Jones to the high end of guidelines and imposing a lifetime no-contact order.
The most serious and gut-wrenching cases involve abuse of children, followed by cases of animal abuse, Anderson noted.
Spokane County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Hannah Stearns handled the case with assistance from the Spokane Police Department and Spokane Fire Department.
