SPOKANE, Wash – The oldest school in Spokane is coming down.
Crews began demolition on Adams Elementary School at the corner of 37th and South Regal.
Adams was built in 1909 and expanded in 1917. Growth over the years has required the district to put up portable buildings to accommodate students.
The building is being torn down to make way for an all-new Adams Elementary School, the design of which was paid for by a school bond in 2015.
Voters approved construction as part of the Together Spokane plan that passed last fall.
Current Adams students moved out of the building in December and are temporarily attending school in the old Jefferson Elementary building at 37th and Grand.
The new Adams Elementary will also house a Boys and Girls Club.
Garco Construction will build the facility, which is scheduled to be ready for students by fall 2027.
