WHITMAN COUNTY, Wash. — A 22-year-old woman from Pullman was killed and a 20-year-old man from Maple Valley was critically injured in a crash involving a semi-truck Friday afternoon on Highway 195, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Troopers said the collision happened around 1:50 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 195 and Hamilton Hill Road/Albion Road when a car traveling west on Albion Road crossed the highway and was struck broadside by a southbound semi-truck after failing to yield the right of way.
Angelina I. D’Amato, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers said she was wearing a seat belt. Her next of kin has been notified.
The driver of the car, Vincent X. Long, 20, was wearing a seat belt and was airlifted to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, where he remains in a coma in critical condition.
The driver of the semi-truck, Steven F. Bauer, 66, of Lewiston, Idaho, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
Troopers said impairment is not believed to be a factor, but the crash remains under investigation.
