SPOKANE, Wash — Two Spokane animal shelters are restarting dog adoptions after a month-long halt due to two virus outbreaks.
Staff and animals at SCRAPS have been battling a Parvo outbreak since mid-December.
Parvo is a virus that attacks a dog’s immune system.
SCRAPS was hoping to reopen for adoptions in early January, but had to push it back due to new cases.
In a Facebook post, SCRAPS says they have completed their Parvo quarantine and are clear to resume adopting adult dogs.
“We are always watchful and treat these diseases with absolute seriousness. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we have worked for the best possible outcome for those in our care,” said SCRAPS in a Facebook post.
For SpokAnimal, the shelter says it is ready to restart adoptions after battling a different respiratory illness since December.
In a Facebook post, the shelter said, “Many of our dogs are now happy, healthy, and ready to start meeting potential adopters!”
The shelter will be taking 5 adoption appointments a day.
