SPOKANE, Wash. — The Arbanas family nearly lost their dog Honey on Christmas Day when she needed an emergency C-section they couldn’t afford.
Honey was pregnant with five puppies and went into labor for four days. Multiple veterinary clinics wanted thousands for the surgery.
“I took her to all different places trying to get her help, and everybody wanted 4,000,” said Tiffany Arbanas.
Arbanas said her family could not afford that at the time, and that veterinarians told the next best choice would be to let Honey pass away comfortably at home. As a last resort, she posted on Nextdoor asking for help.
“Somebody might know someone,” Tiffany said.
Within 20 minutes, community members flooded her phone with responses recommending Dr. Clark, a local mobile veterinarian.
“He goes, right now we’re going to take care of honey first and we’ll deal with payment later,” Tiffany said.
Dr. Clark performed the emergency C-section at a quarter of typical vet prices. The five puppies did not survive, but Honey did.
“It was wonderful just to see somebody that selfless,” said Andrew Arbanas, Tiffany’s husband. “To see somebody that actually truly loves the animals, that truly puts himself in, in the way to make sure these animals have the best outcome they can.”
Dr. Clark’s philosophy is simple: all life is precious and deserves to be lived.
“If it wasn’t for him, our hearts would be broken,” Tiffany said.
The family started a GoFundMe to raise money for Dr. Clark so more pet owners can get help when they need it. You can find the link to it here.
