NORTH IDAHO — Avalanche danger among mountain ranges in North Idaho is considerable on Saturday, according to the Friends of the Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center.
IPAC says warmer temperatures on Saturday will consolidate the recent storm snow in the Selkirk, West Cabinet and Silver Valley-Bitterroot Mountains into more cohesive and sensitive slabs.
Skier triggered avalanches are likely in those areas.
IPAC says an avalanche in these areas would be difficult to escape.
“Don’t let pleasant weather lull you into steep terrain where dangerous conditions still exist,” IPAC said. “The snowpack needs more time to adjust to reach a state of equilibrium.”
