The weather stays dry and pleasant through New Year’s morning, followed by a period of light wintry mix heading into Thursday night and Friday.
Plan your New Year’s Eve
Temperatures will rise to the middle and upper 30s this afternoon with more sunshine. It looks like another beautiful crisp winter day. Temperatures this evening will be in the upper 20s. As fireworks get going around the region, the stagnant air that’s been in place all week will hold the leftover smoke near the ground. A sharp drop in air quality is possible between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m. around Spokane and Coeur d’Alene as a result.
What We’re Tracking
After a dry New Year’s Day, winter mix showers will appear around dinnertime and continue off-and-on through the night and into Friday. Pockets of freezing rain are possible through midday Friday. Temperatures will warm enough for pretty much everywhere in valleys and lowlands to get just rain by the late afternoon. Be ready for slick areas on the roads Friday morning. The weather stays warmer and wet for any plans you have this weekend.
