SANDPOINT, Idaho — A 14-year-old Sandpoint High School student was arrested Monday on charges of threatening violence on school grounds after investigators determined his text message threats were credible, according to the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office received a report Sunday about a threatening group text message sent by the juvenile concerning student safety if they attended school Monday, according to a media release.
Deputies contacted the student and his parents Sunday evening, the sheriff’s office said. Authorities barred the student from school and the family voluntarily allowed law enforcement to remove all weapons from their home, according to the release.
Monday, detectives examined the suspect’s phone, social media accounts, and emails, the sheriff’s office said. The evidence revealed the threats were credible, according to the sheriff’s office.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Threatening Violence Upon School Grounds under Idaho Code 18-33021, the release stated. The student was arrested and booked into the Bonner County Juvenile Detention Unit.
The juvenile’s name has not been released due to his age, and the case will proceed through the juvenile court system, the sheriff’s office said.
