SPOKANE, Wash. — Moses Lake Education Association members overwhelmingly approved their new contract with the school district, voting 99.9% in favor of ratification during a Monday evening meeting.
The vote came after teachers returned to classrooms following a strike. Association members gathered at Moses Lake High School on Dec. 8 to review the agreement before voting.
“On Friday, the district came to the table open to compromise and ready to bargain in good faith,” said Moses Lake EA President Heather Whittall. “This collective bargaining agreement ensures our members will have stability moving forward for the next three years.”
Despite contract satisfaction, teachers expressed disappointment about one unresolved issue, according to the association. The bargaining process did not restore the elementary school day to its previous schedule, leaving students with reduced instructional time.
“We will continue our ongoing efforts on every other front to advocate for immediate restoration of the elementary school day and programs,” Whittall said. “The Moses Lake community really showed up for us and for all of our students.”
The Moses Lake School Board will review and vote on the new contract during their Dec. 18 meeting.
