GRANT COUNTY, Wash. — The Grant County Sheriff’s Office has some helpful tips to protect yourself from porch pirates this holiday season.
To help stop package theft, try some of these preventative measures:
Install motion-activated cameras or video doorbells to deter thieves.Use motion sensor lights to startle thieves and draw attention.Sign up for delivery alerts to know when your packages arrive so you can get them quickly.Use amazon pick-up points, UPS access points or local mail centers for secure pickup.Have packages delivered to your office, if allowed.Require a signature on deliveries.Ask delivery drivers to hide packages out of sight or place them in a specific, secure spot.Time deliveries for when you know you will be home.Ask trusted neighbors or friends to grab packages for you.Install a lockable box on your porch for drivers to use.Keep your porch clear and use signs advertising security systems to deter thieves.
If a package is stolen, make sure to report the eft with any video evidence to help catch the thieves.
