SPOKANE, Wash. — The City of Spokane will provide monthly winter green cart pickups for subscribed customers on Dec. 1-5, 2025, Jan. 5-9, 2026, and Feb. 2-6, 2026.
The service launched last year based on customer feedback. Regular collection runs weekly from March through November.
“For a few years now, we have had requests to provide residential services after November, especially when the weather allows for people to do more yard clean up,” said Public Works Director Marlene Feist.
Residents should fill 90-gallon green carts with leaves, pine needles, grass, pumpkins, weeds, plant trimmings and branches before Dec. 5. Never push leaves into streets.
Plastic bags are prohibited and result in garbage billing. Paper leaf bags are acceptable. Up to three extra paper bags qualify for discounted disposal.
Green carts accept food scraps including meat, dairy, fruits, vegetables, eggshells and leftovers. Food-soiled papers like pizza boxes and coffee filters are also accepted.
Add service at Spokane311.org or call 311. The Waste to Energy facility accepts materials year-round for $7.62 per 200 pounds plus $2.49 self-haul fee.
