SPOKANE, Wash. — Christmas trees arrived early in downtown Spokane this year, as 180 noble firs now stand ready for sale in the Grocery Outlet parking lot, weeks before Thanksgiving.
Noel Mountain Christmas Tree Farm opens its first Spokane location Tuesday. The locally owned business dedicates a portion of its proceeds to Joya Child and Family Development, a nonprofit that provides pediatric therapy to children with disabilities.
“Besides selling trees and wreaths, we’re trying to raise money and donations for the Joya school,” said Sheila Brown, who manages the Christmas tree lot.
The partnership stems from the farm owner’s personal connection to Joya. His child received services from the organization from birth to age three.
“They had a child go through our program from the ages of birth to three years old,” said Tammy Sweeney of Joya Child and Family Development. “And their child is now thriving and doing really great in school.”
For several years, the tree farm owner has donated thousands of dollars to support Joya’s mission. The nonprofit serves over 900 children and families annually, providing services regardless of ability to pay.
The funds help support services like physical therapy, family training and medical examinations for children with disabilities.
“I know people now that have children that are going there, and it’s just a great place because it gives those kids a head start that have got neurological disorders and autism, blindness, hearing issues, walking issues. It’s just a wonderful place,” Brown said.
Brown expects steady customer flow despite the early season. “Well, we’ve already got some people that said that they were coming, you know, friends. But I think it’s going to be kind of a slow flow,” Brown said.
The lot plans to add vendors and weekend Santa visits in December, with opportunities for customers to donate directly to Joya. If you want to donate to Joya, you can also do so online by clicking here.
