SPOKANE, Wash –Intense competition is back on your screens, and you can root for a fellow Spokanite on the show!
Season 2 of Squid Game: The Challenge is now streaming on Netflix. The reality competition show is inspired by the popular Korean drama “Squid Game.”
In this Netflix spinoff, 456 contestants compete in a variety of intense challenges modeled after popular children’s games, with a $4.56 million prize for the last one standing.
Spokane was represented in the first season of Squid Game: The Challenge with contestant 299, Spencer Hawkins, and Spokane is showing up again for season 2.
You can watch Spokane’s Justin Poloni compete for the grand prize this season as number 378.
He was one of the 456 contestants selected out of 170,000 applicants for the season.
Poloni said his wife was the one who convinced him to sign up after watching the first season, thinking it would be an easy win, but it proved to be much harder than he expected.
“You had to submit a video, it was a minute long, and the whole video I was just like, ‘I am just doing this to prove that I can compete and that I can win and prove my wife wrong’,” said Poloni “Just the adrenaline of competing and there like 400 cameras on you, it was way different than I thought.”
Poloni said he went into the show to compete and be his normal kind self.
(SPOILER ALERT)
Although he didn’t win the big prize, he said he would love a chance to do it all over again.
“I’m highly competitive and part of it is just to prove to myself that I do belong at the top, and I think I could go back and I could win,” said Poloni.
There is an opportunity for Justin to be invited back for season 3 through a second-chance fan vote.
