SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Deputies arrested a man and a woman for stealing a car and using a stolen license plate on Sunday, according to Spokane Valley Police Department.
Around 9:30 a.m. on November 2, Spokane Valley Deputies received notice of an Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) alert for a stolen license plate detected on a car in Spokane Valley.
Deputies soon found the car in a parking lot near Broadway Avenue and Sullivan Road. The license plate was originally reported stolen from a Honda CR-V, but deputies found it attached to a Honda Pilot.
Deputies viewed security footage of the parking lot and saw the car had been parked by a man and a woman, later identified as 30-year-old Domanique Ibarra and 28-year-old Jackie Malong.
When they returned to the parking lot, deputies told Ibarra and Malong they were being detained and were not free to leave.
Both Ibarra and Malong began running in opposite directions, with deputies chasing after them.
During the chase, both Ibarra and Malong dropped guns they had been carrying.
Deputies soon tackled and handcuffed both suspects and Ibarra told police he and Malong had ingested a large amount of unknown drugs.
Ibarra and Malong were taken to the hospital for evaluation. A baggie with white powder found on Ibarra during a search later tested positive for Methamphetamine.
Through an investigation, deputies learned the Honda Pilot had been stolen. They contacted the owner who decided to pursue charges.
Due to previous felony convictions, both Ibarra and Malong were prohibited from carrying firearms.
After being medically cleared from the hospital, Ibarra and Malong were booked into the Spokane County Jail for possession of a stolen vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm, drug possession and possession of stolen property, among other charges.
