SPOKANE, Wash. – Disappointing news for the Gonzaga men’s basketball program, as star transfer wing Tyon Grant-Foster did not receive a waiver from the NCAA to play in the 2025-26 season.
The 2024 WAC Player of the Year transferred to Gonzaga back in May, and he earned a practice waiver a few weeks ago. He used that waiver to play in the Blue/White scrimmage at Kraziness in the Kennel.
Grant-Foster is 25 years old, but spent two years at junior college (only one counts as a played season per-NCAA precedence), played a COVID season at Kansas (where the NCAA ruled that all athletes get an extra year of eligibility if they played within this season).
The wing transferred to DePaul, then suffered a heart-related emergency at halftime of the opener, missing the rest of that season plus the entire 2022-23 campaign. He spent the next two seasons at Grand Canyon.
There is a preliminary injunction filed against the NCAA, with GU head coach Mark Few and three NBA general managers filing declarations in support.
The court’s final decision will be on Thursday, October 23.
