SPOKANE, Wash – A man arrested for killing another man near Sacred Heart Medical Center early Sunday was already awaiting trial on a gun charge.
Spokane Police arrested 32-year-old Andre De’Von Moore on Thursday. He was sleeping under the Browne Street viaduct.
Moore is suspected of killing Derick Shafer, 38, who was shot while sitting in his car in the early morning hours of October 12th.
A police news release says detectives “worked tirelessly going through all the collected evidence as well as canvassing the area around the scene looking for any possible video evidence. Through those exhaustive steps, investigators were able to determine Moore’s involvement in the shooting that took another man’s life.
In the affidavit of probable cause, investigators say it appears Moore stalked and planned to ambush Shafer.
They interviewed a web of witnesses with different interpretations of who could be responsible.
Investigators did determine the two men knew each other and had some sort of disagreement or previous argument.
Their court documents show surveillance pictures from throughout downtown as they worked to narrow down their suspect.
Moore was supposed to face a judge Friday, but was sick and did not come to court.
Awaiting Trial
Moore is described in court documents as “a known downtown criminal.”
On August 24th, police write that Moore had an active warrant for theft. When police stopped him, they say he was carrying a loaded gun and ammunition.
As a three-time convicted felon, he’s not allowed to have a gun.
He was booked into the jail then on the gun charge and the warrant.
Court records show a trial date was set for December and he was released on his own recognizance.
He failed to check in with pretrial services as ordered and the court reported it could not reach him.
A judge signed a warrant for his arrest on September 19th.
Court records indicate Moore was arrested again, then released again on his own recognizance on September 23rd.
Derek Shafer was dead 19 days later.
