PULLMAN, Wash. — A group of Pullman businesses and alumni have come together to declare Nov. 14-15 “Dads’ Weekend on the Palouse,” according to a column from Glenn Osterhout.
Osterhout wrote the timing is built around a major WSU sports weekend, with four Cougar teams playing at home over that weekend:
Women’s basketball vs. Stanford at 4 p.m. on Friday
Men’s basketball vs. UW at 8 p.m. on Friday
Volleyball vs. Seattle U at noon on Saturday
Football vs. Louisiana Tech on Saturday at 7 p.m.
The businesses teaming up to offer specials for this unofficial Dads’ Weekend are Zeppos, Airways Hills Golf Center, Rico’s Pub, Paradise Creek Brewery and Hampton Inn Pullman.
“This is a spectacular sports weekend, the Cougars need fans in the stands, and the Pullman business community needs our support,” Osterhout wrote in a column on CougFan.com.
WSU replaced Dads’ and Moms’ Weekends in 2020 with Family Weekends. WSU wrote at the time “to promote and practice inclusivity, Washington State University Pullman’s two visit weekends, traditionally known as Dad’s and Mom’s Weekends, will now be called WSU Family Weekends.”
Osterhout said the local business owners have seen a dramatic drop in business because not as many people attend.
“We’re giving all the dads and guardians out there a great reason to come to Pullman and have fun with their kids like the old days,” Osterhout said.
