MOSCOW, Idaho – The eight-game home win streak came to a crashing end tonight as the Idaho Vandals suffered a 49-33 loss to the Northern Colorado Bears.
The game was all Bears early; UNC scored 35 first-half points, the most allowed by Idaho at home since 2018.
Head coach Tom Ford spoke postgame on what the Vandals can do to improve considering they ride a three-game losing streak for the first time in four seasons.
“The only thing we can do is get back to work, right?” Ford said. “We need to really do a deep dive, intrinsically. I thought we did a great job of that in the bye week, but obviously, it wasn’t good enough. Obviously our players, they will do the same. Whenever you’re playing anybody in this league, especially teams like Northern Colorado that have talent, you have to play your best, and we were nowhere near that today.”
Ford spoke further on the defensive effort, as Northern Colorado beat Idaho all afternoon on deep balls and long passing plays, culminating in 350 passing yards and two scores through the air.
“We’ve really got to do a much better job of preparing a plan to get after the passer, and we got to do a much better job of just staying on top of routes,” Ford said. “Because, at the end of the day, like I said, doesn’t matter what coverage you call, if you get beat one-on-one, vertical routes, none of those calls are good.”
Idaho next hits the road for an Inland Northwest battle against Eastern Washington at Roos Field. Idaho has won three-straight matchups in the series.
Kickoff in Cheney is Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
