SPOKANE, Wash. — The sound of trumpets, drums, and color guard routines echoed through the Mead High School campus this morning, as students rehearsed for one of the most anticipated music events of the year — the Pacific Northwest Marching Band Championships.
Fifteen schools from across Washington, Idaho, and Oregon will take the field Saturday at Union Stadium for a full day of competition. From precision drill patterns to powerful musical arrangements, each band will bring its own theme and style in hopes of impressing judges and earning top honors.
For the Mead High School Marching Band, the event is more than a competition — it’s a chance to perform on their home turf and celebrate months of hard work. Students spent the day making final adjustments, perfecting transitions, and fine-tuning sound quality before showtime.
“This is what we’ve been working toward all season,” said one Mead student. “It’s about more than scores — it’s about performing with passion and pride.”
The Pacific Northwest Marching Band Championships draw hundreds of students, families, and music lovers each year, highlighting the creativity and discipline behind high school marching band programs.
The competition kicks off Saturday, October 11 at 10 a.m. at Union Stadium. For ticket information and a full schedule, visit PNWMBC.ORG.
