SPOKANE, Wash. — Starbucks has permanently closed four locations in the Spokane area, leaving regular customers surprised to discover shuttered doors this week.
Three stores closed in Spokane at Hamilton Street and Indiana Avenue, Division Street and Buckeye Avenue, and Heritage Village. The fourth closure occurred in Ritzville at the intersection of Weber Avenue and West Galbreath Way.
One woman expressed to 4 News Now her disappointment after seeing the closure sign from the highway, only to discover the Ritzville store had permanently closed.
According to CNN, Starbucks announced Thursday it will close 1% of its stores in North America this month. The closures — along with layoffs affecting 900 corporate employees — are part of a $1 billion restructuring plan. CEO Brian Niccol said the stores being closed either failed to meet customer and employee expectations or were not profitable.
