PULLMAN, Wash. – Quarterback Zevi Eckhaus earned his first starting role of 2025 when he took the field with the Cougs this past Saturday, scoring three touchdowns but also turning the ball over three times.
Eckhaus fumbled once, threw an unlucky tipped pass interception, and a pick-six. Washington State head coach Jimmy Rogers spoke about Zevi’s play this week ahead of his second start.
“Zevi’s extremely hard on himself in general, so I don’t really have to be hard on Zevi,” Rogers said. “At times, I need him to relax and understand that there’s another play that he can make, but he doesn’t need to make every single play on every single down. It’s unfortunate what happened and we’re going to learn from it and grow.”
Rogers confirmed after the Apple Cup that there is no more quarterback competition or question, and Eckhaus would be the starter moving forward.
The Cougs now have the nation’s third-worst turnover margin average per game, the worst team in the country with a non-losing record.
WSU puts that number to the test again this Saturday when they battle the Colorado State Rams at 4:30 p.m.
