SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane City Council passed a vote Monday night to extend the interim zoning ordinance for building height limits downtown.
Originally approved in March, the ordinance removed height restrictions for buildings downtown while specifying limits for other city zones.

The ordinance was initially set to expire on September 24, but with this recent vote, the extension will last another six months, until March 24, 2026.
During this extended period, the Planning and Economic Development Department will continue studying the potential impacts of permanent changes to the height regulations.
Council member Jonathan Bingle commented on the ordinance after it passed, emphasizing the importance of the measure for Spokane’s growth.
“If you want to see Spokane a top 100 city, I think this is a necessary step for us to build what is necessary here for both housing and commerce,” Bingle said.
All council members voted in favor of the extension except for Councilmember Kitty Klitzke, who was absent from the meeting.
