AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. — During the annual Cops, Cars and Cruisers event, law enforcement agencies honored the memory of the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant who died in the line of duty last month.
Sgt. Kenneth Salas was struck by a motorcycle and killed while trying to clear a hay bale from I-90 near the Four Lakes exit last month.
During the Cops, Car and Cruisers event, his name was added to the Liberty Lake Police Department Memorial Car, which honors the memory of fallen law enforcement from Washington and Idaho.
“Sgt. Ken Salas–a remarkable public servant, was a loyal friend, and a true pillar of strength within our law enforcement community,” said the Airway Heights Police Department. “Sgt. Salas was more than a colleague to us at the Airway Heights Police Department; he was family.”
The Memorial Car carries the name of officers dating back to 1980 who either died in the line of duty or took their own lives due to post-traumatic stress disorder. It appears at dozens of events each year and is the only mobile memorial of its kind in the state.
