FERRY COUNTY, Wash. — Firefighters are gaining control of two wildfires burning on the Colville Reservation on Thursday morning.
According to Northwest Incident Management Team 7, the Rattlesnake Fire is burning at about 21,338 acres, or 33.3 square miles, and is 50% contained. On Wednesday, the fire was estimated at about 31 square miles and was 33% contained.
Fire crews have established strong fire lines all along the west side of the fire, but still have a lot of work to do before they are completely secure.
Team 7 said the hard work is “paying off” and that air support has been very effective in fighting the Rattlesnake Fire. Crews expect containment to continue to increase over the next few days.
The Lynx Mountain Fire has grown to 5,033 acres, or 7.8 square miles, up from 7 square miles on Wednesday. It is now 6% contained.
Fire lines are almost established all around the fire, with the north-side fire lines holding well.
Team 7 said the southern fire lines should be well established in the next day or two. Sprinklers and other structure protection are still in place.
