CHENEY, Wash. — You are invited to come support restoration efforts at Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge this fall.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is looking for volunteers on October 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to help with its annual community-supported restoration efforts.
This year’s theme, “Our Home Outdoors,” focuses on the importance of public lands as essential places for gathering, learning, healing and building connections.
This event is part of National Public Lands Day, which is the largest single-day volunteer effort for public lands.
The event will take place in the Jolly Jack unit of the refuge, located off Cheney-Spangle Road. This area was first added to the refuge in 2019.
Volunteers will spend the day helping staff plant native trees around the area.
The event is family-friendly and open to all ages. Large groups are welcome with advance notice.
Everyone is asked to wear long pants and closed toe shoes. You mist provide your own food and water.
Staff will provide planting equipment, including gloves.
Light refreshments will be provided.
