FERRY COUNTY, Wash. — Firefighters are continuing work on two wildfires burning on the Colville Reservation.
The Rattlesnake Fire saw significant growth between Sunday and Monday, expanding from an estimated 13,480 acres to 17,713 acres, according to incident management officials.
The Lynx Mountain Fire also increased in size, though at a slower pace, growing from approximately 2,961 acres to 3,541 acres over the same period.
Fire crews continue suppression efforts on both incidents, working to protect nearby communities and infrastructure.
Containment for the Rattlesnake Fire is estimated at 5%, while the Lynx Mountain Fire remains at 0%.
Rattlesnake Fire: Crews secured the eastern edge down to the river Sunday, protecting homes and cultural sites. Today, firefighters are reinforcing lines near Johnny George Lookout to halt fire spread. Direct and indirect tactics aim to keep the fire south of BIA Road 1121.
Lynx Mountain Fire: Hose lines and sprinklers are holding the fire north of Twin Lakes and Bridge Creek Road. Fallers are working the east side to boost structure protection as crews continue efforts on the north and east flanks.
Air quality varies on location; some areas may have very thick patches of smoke. Know your risk to wildfire smoke and plan to reduce exposure. For current smoke reports visit https://fire.airnow.gov
Level 3 (GO NOW) evacuations remain in place for both fires. You can see the most recent evacuation maps by clicking here.
To put the size of the fire in perspective, one acre is roughly the size of a standard American football field, not including the end zones.
