STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. — UPDATED 4:45 p.m., August 31 – An evacuation shelter is now open for the wildfires burning near Northport on Sunday.
According to the State Fire Marshall’s Office, the Crown Creek/Black Hawk Mountain Fires are burning about 12 miles south of Northport at about 1,203 acres, or 1.8 square miles.
Department of Natural Resources said an evacuation center is open at the American Legion Post 146, 1057 Highway 395 N in Kettle Falls.
Evacuations, including Level 3 (GO NOW) evacuations have expanded for the wildfires. Level 3 is now in place for the area between Highway 25 and Hawks Road. Level 2 (GET SET) and Level 1 (GET READY) are also in effect.

Evacuations are in place for two large wildfires burning near Northport, Washington on Sunday afternoon, according to Stevens County Emergency Management.
On August 29, firefighters responded to a wildfire burning about 12 miles south of Northport, also known as the “Crown Creek Fire.” As of Sunday, the fire is burning at 1,139 acres, or roughly 1.7-square miles.
Just northwest of the fire, another fire, known as the “Blackhawk Mountain Fire” is burning at 55-acres.
Both fires are also burning near a third fire known as the “Johnson Grade Fire.”
As of Sunday afternoon, Level 3 (GO NOW), Level 2 (GET SET) and Level 1 (GET READY) evacuations are in place for the surrounding areas. Click here for the latest evacuation map.
SCEM said fire crews are monitoring potential fire growth, working to establish and strengthen fire lines and keeping fire activity low.
The following road closures are also in place Sunday afternoon for the fires:
-Highway 25 and Clungston-Onion Creek Road
-Highway 25 and Johnson Grade Road
-Clungston-Onion Creek Rod and Bodie Mountain Road.
