HARRISON, Idaho – A bar and restaurant that has served guests in Harrison, Idaho for decades now has an extra $50,000 to build for the future.
One Shot Charlies was one of 50 restaurants across the country to win a grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and American Express.
It’s part of the “Backing Historic Small Restaurants” program, which has given a boost to 180 restaurants over the last five years.
The grants can be used to help restaurants upgrade and grow their businesses.
On its website, One Shot Charlies says it began in 1952 when an immigrant named Charlie Jenicek bought what was then the Oasis Tavern. It later became known as one Shot Charlies.
“If anyone has heard of Harrison, Idaho,” the website says, “chances are they’ve been to One Shot Charlies.”
One Shot Charlies is the only restaurant in Idaho to receive the grant this year. Westside Drive-In in Boise received the grant in 2024.
