SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A local barbershop helped families get ready for the school year by giving students free haircuts.
The Man Shop in Spokane Valley knows back-to-school shopping costs a lot of money. Haircuts often get skipped when families need to buy supplies and clothes.
Jaidell Davis, a high school senior, got a free cut. For him, it’s about more than just looking good.
“I’m job hunting and that helps,” Davis said.
Davis knows many families struggle to pay for haircuts.
“Free student haircut allows for those families that are struggling and can’t always get those haircuts,” he said.
By 9 a.m., students were already waiting in line for the 10 a.m. start time. Hundreds of kids got haircuts that day.
Wendy Jordan cuts hair at The Man Shop. She volunteered her time to help students feel confident about starting school.
“There’s no money in the world that can compensate for seeing those kids walk out the door and be happy and feel good about themselves,” Jordan said.
Jordan believes that a good haircut can help kids feel more confident about themselves.
“There’s so much negativity out in the world that just having that little bit of confidence and walking into school the first day, feeling good about yourself is priceless,” Jordan said.
Davis was grateful for the free service.
“It’s a great benefit, honestly, and it makes me want to keep coming back,” he said. “Even if it’s not something that they need to do, it’s something they want to do.”
For families in the Post Falls area: The Man Shop near Stateline and Walmart will offer free haircuts tomorrow, August 25th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
