COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — If you’re a Gem State Water customer living in the Coeur d’Alene area, you may need to drink bottled water for a few days.
On August 1, Gem State Water’s system experienced a drop in water pressure due to an unplanned shutdown event.
“While the system did maintain some pressure, a drop in/loss of water pressure creates conditions that could allow contamination to enter the distribution system through backflow, by backpressure, or back-siphonage,” the company stated in an online notification.
Gem State Water said the water pressure issue could make your home’s water unsafe for drinking, but that it can continue to be used for showering, washing clothes, dish-washing, cooking and hand-washing.
Flush your lines if you notice discoloration in your water.
Gem State Water said the distribution system is being flushed to remove any possible contaminants and samples are being analyzed to verify the water is free of bacteria.
The company said it expects the issue to be resolved within four days.
