BOISE, Idaho – Even though Bryan Kohberger will likely spend the rest of his life in prison for the murder of four University of Idaho students, prosecutors in the case want an extra level of protection to keep the killer from contacting family members of the victims.
Kohberger pleaded guilty to killing Kaylee Goncalves, Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle and Madison Mogen.
He faces four consecutive life terms when he is sentenced on Wednesday.
Prosecutors in the case filed a motion, asking the judge to keep in place no contact orders for an additional 99 years.
Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson says current no contact orders in the case expire on January 5, 2027.
The no contact orders were put in place shortly after Kohberger’s arrest in December 2022.
They were initially sealed as not to reveal the names of witnesses who may be protected by the no contact order.
It’s not clear how Judge Steven Hippler will handle the new motion filed by the state; no hearing has been scheduled other than the sentencing hearing on Wednesday.
