AIRWAY HEIGHTS – There was no shortage of the harsh truth at Big Sky Media Day.
“When the lights got brighter, we weren’t better,” said Head Coach Aaron Best when asked why the Eagles struggled last year.
The team hasn’t won more than four games in a season over the past three years and many of those losses were decided by just a single possession.
“Our one-score record in the last two years is not good. Trust me: head coaches don’t know everything,” said Best. “I ask resources, I ask players, I talk to other coaches. We’ll try anything to get over that hump.”
After three tough seasons, Eastern Washington football is gearing up for a fresh start and a renewed mindset.
That determination has led the Eagles to focus on more than just physical preparation. Over the past three months, the team has been working with a mental strength coach, emphasizing resilience and focus to better handle the adversity that comes with the game.
“As you know with football, you’re going to get a lot of adversity. You never know when it’s going to come. It could happen every play of a football game or it can be a Wednesday at practice. You never know when it’s gonna come,” said quarterback Jared Taylor.
The Eags open their season with three straight road games. The first one of the season is in Texas against Incarnate Word on August 30th.
