SPOKANE, Wash. — Firefighters from multiple agencies responded Thursday to a brush fire that burned about 1.5 acres in North Spokane, prompting road closures and an ongoing mop-up operation.
Spokane County Fire District 9 is on scene with the Washington State Department of Natural Resources and the Spokane Fire Department along North Five Mile Road.
“Keeping the fire under 10 acres improves our chances of containment exponentially”, said Ryan Rodruck, Public Information Officer for the Washington Department of Natural Resources
.
Crews have stopped the fire’s forward progress, and no structures are currently threatened, according to officials.
North Five Mile Road is temporarily closed between North Waikiki Road and Hawthorne Road.
Firefighters are expected to remain in the area for several hours to ensure the fire is fully extinguished.
Authorities are asking drivers and residents to avoid the area.
