SPOKANE, Wash. — A Heat Advisory has been issued for the Inland Northwest beginning Monday. The National Weather Service has some tips to keep you and your family safe during the hot weather.
NWS says a Heat Advisory is typically issued within one to three days of dangerous heat and remains in effect until the hot weather is over.
Here are some tips to protect yourself and your family during a Heat Advisory:
Reduce strenuous activities until the coolest time of day. Children, seniors and anyone with health concerns should stay in the coolest available places.Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing to reflect heatChoose easy-to-digest foods such as fruits or salads.Drink plenty of water, even if you don’t feel thirsty, and try to avoid alcohol or caffeinated drinks.Use air conditioners or portable electric fans.Minimize sun exposure.Do not take salt tablets unless recommended by a physician.Never leave children, disabled adults or pets in a car, especially during hot weather.
