SPOKANE, Wash. — If you’re heading to the great outdoors next week, be aware of some new restrictions on state-managed lands.
Starting July 1, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife will be placing restrictions on certain activities in order to mitigate wildfire risk.
WDFW says fires and campfires are prohibited except for personal camp stoves and lanterns fueled by propone, liquid petroleum, or liquid petroleum gas.
People are also prohibited from shooting guns beyond lawful hunting except at Methow and Asotin Creek shootings ranges at approved times.
Smoking outside of an enclosed vehicle, welding, operating chainsaws, and off-roading are also prohibited.
“This year’s forecast shows an increased risk of wildfires statewide, so it’s incredibly important to recreate responsibly and prevent possible wildfires while visiting public lands this summer,” said Kevin Connally, WDFW’s Lands Division Manager. “These restrictions help protect local communities, as well as critical wildlife habitat, and we all have a responsibility to our shared outdoor spaces.”
