SCHAWANA, Wash. — Grant County authorities have arrested three men in connection with the May 28 shooting death of a 44-year-old man.
Grant County Detectives and the Sheriff’s Crime Reduction Team arrested 19-year-old Gilberto Sanchez Medina of Mattawa and 19-year-old Isaac Almeida-Chittim of East Wenatchee for the homicide of Juan Pablo Acosta in the town of Schawana.
Both men face charges of first-degree murder and drive-by shooting. Almeida-Chittim remains in the Grant County Jail with bail denied, while Sanchez is held on $1 million bail.
A third suspect, 23-year-old Angel Olivares, was arrested in Ephrata shortly after the shooting. He faces charges of second-degree murder and drive-by shooting and is being held without bail at the Grant County Jail.
According to Grant County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting took place in Schawana, an unincorporated community in Grant County located along the Columbia River.
Authorities have not released details about the circumstances surrounding Acosta’s death or a possible motive.
First-degree murder charges in Washington state carry a potential sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. Second-degree murder charges can result in sentences ranging from 10 years to life in prison.
All three suspects remain in custody as the case moves through the court system.
Formal charges are expected to be filed in Grant County Superior Court in the coming days.
