BOISE, Idaho – An Ada County judge will hear arguments on Wednesday on two key issues in the case against Bryan Kohberger.
Kohberger is scheduled to go on trial in August for the murder of four University of Idaho students.
Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, Ethan Chapin and Madison Mogen were killed in Moscow in November 2022.
Kohberger faces the death penalty if convicted.
As the trial nears, Kohberger’s defense team wants the judge to delay the trial and also wants to be allowed to submit evidence that someone other than Kohberger committed the crime.
The defense specifically asked for a continuance because of a recent episode of the NBC show Dateline in which key information about the case was reported.
Judge Steven Hippler required the defense and the prosecution to submit documents about who had that information to determine if someone violated the non-dissemination order.
The defense said there should be an investigation into that matter and the trial should be delayed while that information is sorted out.
Both matters will be heard by the judge in hearings Wednesday.
The hearing on the motion to continue will be open to the public and cameras; the arguments about presenting information about a possible alternate perpetrator will be closed.
The hearings are set to begin at 11:30 a.m. PST.
