SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown issued a statement ahead of Pride festivities this weekend.
Spokane Pride is hosting a Pride Parade downtown on Saturday, celebrating the LGBTQ+ members of our community.
“As we head into the weekend, I want to wish everyone a joyful and safe Pride,” Mayor Brown said in her statement. “Everyone deserves the ability to exercise their First Amendment rights – whether that is through celebration, protest, or peaceful assembly.”
Spokane Pride organizers are enhancing security measures for Saturday’s parade due to the amount of people expected to attend and other planned protests in the area on Saturday.

“As we head into the weekend, I want to wish everyone a joyful and safe Pride. Pride was born out of protest, and it stands as a powerful reminder of the importance of visibility, equality, and the right of every person to express themselves freely. “Everyone deserves the ability to exercise their First Amendment rights – whether that is though celebration, protest, or peaceful assembly. Year after year, Spokane Pride is a safe, welcoming event and that is exactly what we are planning for again this year. “Happy Pride to all who are celebrating.”
