SPOKANE, Wash. – The 2026 World Cup begins exactly one year from today, and the Northwest readies for the massive international event.
Former Gonzaga Bulldog and longtime Seattle Sounder Zach Scott spoke on his time in the Northwest, the Hawaii native signing memorabilia and greeting fans today at Brick West Brewing.
“Just amazing to see how the town, how it’s grown out, how the school has grown out, and now fast-forward to now, and being a year away from the World Cup being hosted in Seattle, and see the excitement around that in a city like Spokane that’s built for soccer, right?” Scott said. “The Velocity, the Zephyr, they’re here, everybody’s excited for soccer to be in the Pacific Northwest.”
Scott spent all 14 of his professional career playing for the Sounders organization, totally 272 appearances and nine goals from 2002 to 2016, including an MLS Cup Championship in his final season.
The 2026 World Cup is in Seattle for six matches, including four group stage games, one Round of 32 match and a Round of 16 match. The group stage game on June 19 will have Team USA playing.
