BONNERS FERRY, Idaho — The Idaho Department of Lands reported a wildfire burned about eight miles northeast of Bonners Ferry Tuesday.
The fire was contained by 10:00 p.m. on June 7, 2025.
It burned about a quarter of an acre.
The Department said the fire was burning actively after dark, at elevations about 2,800 feet, which is not typical for this time of year.
Fire experts said normally the temperatures get cooler at night, which slow down fire growth.
Plus, at higher elevations, the snowmelt usually stops wildfire growth this time of year.
This fire may be an indicator for the summer wildfire season the Inland Northwest is about to encounter.
To help prevent the spread of wildfire in your area, remember to clear a defensible space around your home, and if you have a lot of acreage, build premade fire lines so that a potential fire will have a tougher time spreading.
Remember: all it takes is high heat, wind, and dry conditions for embers to wipe out entire communities.
