COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — The North Idaho Pride Alliance brought the community together for its annual Pride in the Park celebration on Saturday.
The annual event drew a large crowd. People waved pride flags, shared food, and visited nearly 100 community booths. Music played as attendees of all ages participated.
“I’m here for free mom hugs and I’ll do anything for free mom hugs because we just come out to love and support those that need it,” said Jenn Richards.
Marissa Garrett explained what pride means to her family.
“Pride for us means just being able to be a normal family, just like be recognized as a normal family. Live our lives, just out and proud and just like everyone else,” Garrett said.
People of all ages attended in rainbow colors. Four-year-old Wesley Dunn wore “a T-Rex outfit with a rainbow dinosaur T-Rex head.”
Preston Dunn shared what the celebration means to him.
“It means showing who you are and not being afraid to show it. And just having fun with it,” Dunn said.
A few protesters attended but were outnumbered by celebrants.
A married couple even renewed their vows during the event.
The crowd responded with cheers of “Love is love.”
