SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Avista is temporarily changing power line operations in Washington and Idaho due to increasing fire danger in the region.
Avista Utilities is implementing its Fire Safety Mode, which adjusts how it responds to incidents during high-risk weather.
During Fire Safety Mode, power lines that experience faults will stay de-energized until crews confirm it is safe to restore power.
This is part of Avista’s wildfire strategy that aims to protect the communities it serves during wildfire season.
Fire Safety Mode has been put in place during wildfire season for more than 20 years.
