SPOKANE, Wash.– Forecasts for early June are backing up predictions from the U.S. Climate Prediction Center (CPC) of a fast start to summer with dry and warm conditions.
Odds are at 45% for Spokane and Coeur d’Alene to experience a dry June and 50% for a warm June, according to the CPC. The odds of a wet June are only 25%, and there’s a 17% chance that this month will be cooler than average.
So far, 4 News Now forecasts for early June don’t show any sign of rain. A hot, stable pattern takes over our weather late this week and will stay the dominant weather feature in the Pacific Northwest through next Wednesday. Get our latest forecast here.
A fast start to summer could also mean a fast start to fire season too. Fire weather forecasters at the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise call for above-normal wildfire activity this month in Eastern Washington and North Idaho. NIFC states that the potential for grasses and lowland plants to start curing early, thanks to the weather, will create added risk for fire starts.
