SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Zephyr FC’s remarkable second half of their inaugural season fell short Saturday in a last ditch effort to make the playoff cut.
Spokane and Fort Lauderdale United FC’s match ended in a draw, and with Dallas Trinity winning their game Saturday; Spokane was knocked out of playoff contention.
United FC scored the first goal in the seventh minute but Spokane’s Ally Cook came in with the heater to respond, hitting the back of Fort Lauderdale’s net in the ninth minute. The score would remain 1-1 to conclude the match.
If Spokane pulled out the win, they would be headed to the first ever USL Super League post-season.
Coach Jo Johnson finished her first and final season with the Zephyr and the club is looking to find a new head coach.
