SPOKANE, Wash. — Governor Bob Ferguson has ordered state and U.S. flags at all state agency facilities to be lowered in honor of Washington’s longest-serving Speaker of the House.
Representative Frank Chopp died on March 22, 2025. He was 71 years old. He served as the Washington Speaker of the House from 1999 to 2019. He was first elected to serve as the Representative of Washington’s 43rd Legislative District in 1994.
“Frank Chopp was Washington’s longest-serving Speaker of the House and my longtime friend and colleague,” said Spokane Mayor Brown. “He was passionate about housing and healthcare, and he will be greatly missed.”
A memorial service for Rep. Chopp will take place on Sunday, June 1 at 2 p.m. in Bellevue.
The city of Spokane is encouraging anyone with a flag outside their home or business to also lower it in honor of Rep. Chopp.
