SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A new cross country running venue in Spokane Valley moved closer to hosting national championships after securing a $282,464 state grant to install a permanent finish line arch.
Spokane Sports received the funding from the Washington State Department of Commerce for The Course Spokane Valley, which is scheduled to open later this year.
“A finish line arch is more than just a marker. It’s a signature of a premium course,” said Ashley Blake, CEO of Spokane Sports.
The venue will host a preview season in late fall 2025, with a full championship season launching in 2026. The Course has already secured the 2027 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Regional Championships.
Spokane Sports pursued the grant in partnership with the City of Spokane Valley to grow sports tourism.
“The city’s Tourism Strategic Plan identified The Course as the most favorable tourism asset based on return on investment,” said Mike Basinger, Spokane Valley Community and Economic Development Director.
