LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. — Liberty Lake Regional Park reopened to the public after a $4 million renovation kept the popular recreation area closed throughout last summer.
“Liberty Lake is one of the best and most used lakes in Spokane County,” said Mary Kuney, Spokane County Commissioner, during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The makeover included enhancing shaded areas, improving road access and making the beach and water more accessible. New amenities feature updated bathrooms with outdoor showers and a dock with an ADA-compliant kayak launch.
Local resident John Norton and his dog Gracie have already made the park a favorite fishing spot.
“I love it. This is the second time I fished here. The first time the whole family came for my grandson’s birthday, and we probably caught 60 fish between all of us,” Norton said.
The new kayak launch has been particularly well-received.
“All three of my grandsons brought their kayaks. They were out all last night. It’s easy. I guess they just pull it right up on that ramp,” Norton said.
For families like the Nortons, Liberty Lake Regional Park will be a summer destination. And as for Gracie the dog, who was spotted napping in the sun, she enjoyed it too.
Standard county park entrance fees apply. Visitors should check the Spokane County Parks Department website for details on fees, reservations, and regulations.
