SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane’s oldest tradition returns this weekend as the city hosts the annual Lilac Festival, a celebration dating back to 1938. The festival is set to take place rain or shine and is entirely organized by volunteers.
Centered on honoring the military, empowering youth, and showcasing the Inland Northwest, the festival offers a variety of events for the community to enjoy.
The festivities begin Friday with the Queen’s Luncheon and the President’s Gala.
Saturday features Brewfest, held in the Pavilion, with more than 30 local breweries participating.
“This is a great community event. We have lots of wonderful breweries here locally in Spokane and around the Spokane area. We bring them all together in one place, so if you’ve never tried that neighborhood brewery before, this is a great place to do it,” said Sam Snow, treasurer of the Spokane Lilac Association.
Also on Saturday, visitors can explore the Cruzin’ the Falls Car Show on Spokane Falls Boulevard and shop local vendors at the Lilac Marketplace along the parade route.
The weekend culminates with the Armed Forces Torchlight Parade on Saturday evening. The parade, which begins at 7:30 p.m., honors Fairchild Air Force Base and other military personnel from the region. It features school bands, cheer and drill teams, cultural groups, community organizations and military units from across the Inland Northwest.
